Game Development Internship

Sharkbomb Studios, Ludwigsburg

Introduction

Are you passionate about video games and card games? Are you interested in bringing a new game to life? Are you curious to learn and improve your skills in a friendly work environment? If so, you might be who we’re looking for:

We have an opening for a GAME DESIGN and/or GAME ART intern to join the development team for our new deck-building video game starting April 2025.

Who is Sharkbomb Studios?

Sharkbomb Studios is a one-man development team helmed by Martin Nerurkar, based out of Ludwigsburg, Germany and supported by many talented freelancers. We focus on authentic games about community, vulnerability, and growth.

The studio is probably best known for the release of Nowhere Prophet, a roguelike deck-building game about a post-apocalyptic community looking to find a new home.

What we offer

As we are a tiny studio you would work in close collaboration with an experienced game developer and take on a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities. We offer very flexible working hours and the work could be partially remote, though some on-site time will be required. And of course this internship will be compensated.

Your Tasks

Your job will be to help shape and build our newest roguelike deck-building game. As the studio is a very small team we put a premium on flexibility. This means that your precise tasks would be structured to fit your skills and interests as much as possible and provide a lot of variety. Some of your tasks, based on your interests and skills, could be:

  • Designing and implementing content (cards, heroes, artifacts etc.)
  • Creating 2d artwork for cards and units
  • Creating 3d assets for environments
  • Playtesting the game to evaluate gameplay and balance
  • Proposing and discussing features and gameplay
  • Testing, analyzing and reverse engineering other games and game systems
  • Quality Assurance by testing the game and reporting bugs

Your Skills

Core Requirements

  • You are enrolled in games education and are looking for a mandatory internship as part of this education
  • You have already been credited as a game designer or game artist on at least one finished game project, regardless of the size of the game or the context in which it was created: a 24h game jam project is as valid as is a multi-year hobby project.

Needed Skills

  • You enjoy collaboration with others
  • You can articulate your feedback, ideas and opinions well
  • You are very self-motivated and able to approach complex problems with some guidance
  • You are familiar with the Unity 3d Engine
  • You are skilled in document and spreadsheet software (Google Docs, MS Excel etc.)
  • You are fluent in English and able to read and write technical documents

Bonus Skills

  • You are a capable C# coder with experience in Unity 3d
  • You have experience with narrative design and writing for games
  • You have experience with card games (Magic, Hearthstone, Slay the Spire…)
